Tough love has great rewards

Hi Jannie,
I purchased my female ShihTzu in January.
I had no problem with trimming her nails as a puppy.
Now she turned 1yr old and will not let me cut them.
Please help. How should I do it?
I don’t want to take her to groomer or vet cause I lost my
last shih Tzu when they restrained her & she struggled.
She is about 6.5lbs and very lively, we love her very much.
Please let me know what’s the best way to do it.
Thank you….

Reply……You’ll have to do tough love.
You struggle right back and force her sitting position.
Hold the nail clipper ( first go buy a different kind than
what she’s used to seeing you use).

Just sit there with nail clippers in hand.
Then when she is calm put her down and say good girl.
An hour or so later. Pick her up and you are building trust.
Then clip one or two tips off the nails.
Put her down and say good girl. But only put her down when she is calm.
Never while she is struggling. You have to be alpha.
I’m here to help with your puppy issues. Tough love has great rewards.

Question. do i need to walk my shih poo every day?

As an ongoing commitment to you, we are spontaneously posting new question content to educate our loyal AceOfPups customers.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My Shih Tzu shakes her head and scratches her ears. What is this?
Mites!
Mites are those annoying parasites that look for ear canals to make their nests. Seriously!
It happens. Relax there’s a remedy! Most often, it is not your fault nor is it a reflection on your cleanliness!
Over the counter mite meds don’t work for me. However, the ear cleansers and ear powder, found in pet stores, do help
to keep the ears clean enough to ward off the mites. Read the directions and you’ll be happily surprised at how infrequent
those mites come to visit your pups ears.
When there is excessive hair in the ear canal get it plucked out. That is an invitation to Mites.
If and when they do, my veterinarian prescribes Treserderm with an antibiotic additive. Please ask your vet about its use.
Not the Shih Poo or the Shih Tzu require walking.
They are created as house pets and the play they get within your home is sufficient exercise.
They are not work dogs or exercise mates. The Shih Poo and the Shih Tzu are terrific lap dogs and the ever sweet companion following your feet around the house.
The tiny ShihTzu overheat easily, the larger ShihTzu are better for short walks. Outside temperatures and humidity make a HUGE DIFFERENCE with ShihTzu.
How long to walk your ShihTzu? Only the individual ShihTzu can answer that, Just please keep an eye out for symptoms of enough already!
Also is yours Double Coated or Single Coated, each will react differently. Then too there is SIZE, is there belly 6″ or 16″ above the heated or frozen ground .
Carry water for your pup to drink. Pick them up and carry them ay the slightest symptom of overheating, or getting cold in the winter.
Question – what can i give my shihtzu for catarrh?
As an ongoing commitment to you, we are spontaneously posting new question content to educate our loyal AceOfPups customers.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

What can I give my Shih Tzu for catarrh…also known as Kennel Cough?

This is one of those predicaments that is so closely related to our common cold.
You can give the pup medication….BUT…just like for us, it’ll only mask the symptoms.

Our basic common colds have to run the course of 7 to 21 days and so does the kennel cough.
You should not try to care for this problem by yourself, the pup definitely needs the antibiotic.

So, with knowing that, your veterinarian will prescribe Clavamox as an antibiotic to give daily for 2 weeks minimum.

You can get the liquid or the pills. I personally prefer the pills. I just stick it in the center of a piece of their canned beef chunks.

I’ll buy those cans when I know it’s pill time for someone.
Canned food is not an every day staple as I prefer the dry kernels as their food .
But it’s good to have some handy when the time arises to pop them a pill.
The shelf like of the liquid Clavamox is only 10 days refrigerated.

Kennel Cough is a common problem which is easily cared for. Although it certainly makes your pup miserable and is scary to see your pup experience this, it rarely kills. They will cough as if gagging on a dry cotton ball. Take your pet to the Vet ASAP! If you can’t make it to the Vet, over the counter cough suppressants can soothe your pets throat till you get a chance.

Question: ShihTzu puppie has Loss of Appetite. What are some causes?

ShihTzu puppie has Loss of Appetite.  What are some causes?

Sometimes loss of appetite may be due to a pups constipation.  So be observant as to the bowel movements…AT ALL TIMES.
I always suggest taking a look at the consistency of the poop.  Look for blood, or mucus or just simply too hard or too loose.
Then you can talk knowledgeably with your veterinarian when they ask you “how long has the pup had this problem”
Because they will ask you that question.  They will ask for a stool sample.

Question: Why is my 8 week old ShihTzu is shaking?

As an ongoing commitment to you, we are spontaneously posting new question content to educate our loyal AceOfPups customers.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
my 8 week old shih tzu is shaking?
More likely you possibly mean trembling…..this could be simply an uneasy feeling the pup is experiencing…OR…
it could mean the pup is about to go into a hypoglycemic attack.
Your puppie medicine cabinet is important to have stocked with necessary items for such happenings.
Nutrical is a vitamin paste that comes in a tube, (idon’t buy the one for puppy, it is too runny) buy the one that says for dog on it.
Squeeze a finger tip full into the pups mouth. For either situation, the uneasiness or the onslaught of the hypoglycemic attack.
Nutrical stabilizes their little systems. It is paramount to have this on hand.
Be watchful and call your veterinarian and explain these symptoms and get their advice as well.
Question: What causes my pup to make gagging noises?
As an ongoing commitment to you, we are spontaneously posting new question content to educate our loyal AceOfPups customers.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

What causes my pup to make gagging noises?

Well, the first thought that comes to mind is Kennel Cough. Kennel Cough is like our common cold…
it could get worse,or it may clear up without any complications….
BUT, just like our common cold, it has to take it’s course which is between 10 and 21 days.
So please take your pet to the veterinarian and let them prescribe an antibiotic, usually Clavamox.
The second thing that comes to mind is gagging on their food and or the stuffing out of a toy….
so many guesses….so of course I’ll make the suggestion to take your pup to a veterinarian.

Really, you want to be observant of your pups actions and play time, in order to help you with those
nagging thoughts of “now what’ll I do”.
Getting to know your veterinarian will be easier on the wallet if you can simply make the call and
ask questions and ask what remedies are available for the situation your pup may be experiencing.

Nutricial Questions on Ace Of Pups.

nutri cal for shih tzu puppies? what is it for?

why is my shih tzu always itchy?

does nutri cal cause itching?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nutrical is a vitamin supplement to help puppies thru those first stages of change and the added stress on their systems.
I have never, ever, ever, head of Nutrical causing itching. That is not the culprit, I assure you!
Stress and changes of any sort can cause a pups anxiety level to heighten to levels that can cause a hypoglycemic attack.
I personally believe a tube of the Nutrical for dogs, (not puppies – too runny) should be a part of your puppie medicine cabinet supplies.
